Spiltan Realinvest Global maintain a minimum share of 20 percent of the portfolio in sustainable investments. A sustainable investment is defined through Spiltan Fonder’s established framework for sustainable investments. A sustainable investment is defined as a company publicly committing to reduce its carbon emissions in line with the Paris Agreement, or fulfils the criteria of having a minimum of 20 percent taxonomy aligned activities contributing to an environmental target. Spiltan Fonder use a reference benchmark in its assessment ensuring that a sustainable investment do not cause significant harm to any other sustainable investment objective. Additionally, Spiltan Fonder assess investments according to its policy for good governance practices.
Investment strategy
Spiltan Realinvest Global follows Spiltan Fonder’s responsible investments policy and Spiltan Fonder’s policy for integrating sustainability risks in the investment process which mandates that Spiltan Realinvest Global shall comply with certain sustainability criteria in its management of the fund. Before investment, companies are screened based on whether they conduct business in countries subject to international sanctions or operate in countries with high corruption risk. This is assessed through international sanction lists, and the Corruption Perception Index. The manager responsible for Spiltan Realinvest Global also conducts a special sustainability analysis of the portfolio companies to identify sustainability-related opportunities. From Spiltan Fonder’s policy for integrating sustainability risks in the investment process follows certain exclusion criteria. Spiltan Fonder actively engage through ongoing dialogue with portfolio companies during ownership to promote the importance of sustainability and impacting progress.
Monitoring of environmental and/or social characteristics, data, and data limitations
Spiltan Realinvest Global uses external sustainability data providers and for the European companies, the data is complemented with data received directly from portfolio companies. Spiltan Fonder compares data received from external data providers to the data and information provided through the portfolio companies’ public information. Additionally, all data is assessed, analysed and evaluated with the base of knowledge Spiltan Fonder has about the specific portfolio company. External data providers are evaluated and selected based on their capabilities to provide decent data quality, quality assurance methodologies, and fund coverage. Spiltan Fonder has engaged data providers, specialists in field of the sustainable finance regulations, in which Spiltan Fonder is obliged to disclose sustainability-related information.
Spiltan Fonder acknowledge limitations in the sustainability data used in the analysis of investments in Spiltan Realinvest Global. These data limitations are due to the fact that the legal acts adopted as a result of the European Commission’s European Green Deal, and additional international regulations which aim to increase the transparency and optimise sustainability reporting come into force on different dates and with different reporting obligations dependent on where the company geographically operates, hence the majority of Spiltan Realinvest Global’s portfolio companies are consequently not obliged to report relevant sustainability data today.
